Are You A Dietitian Just Starting Out? How To Be Successful Fast!

by | Nov 11, 2020

Are you a dietitian just starting out? Here are my top tips on how to be successful fast and some unconventional advice that you may not have considered before!

Earlier today I was reflecting on a time when I was in Chino Hills, California filming a podcast for my business coach and mentor, Bedros KeuilianAs I reflected on this moment, I decided I wanted to share this story with any new dietitian entrepreneurs out there about EARNING things in life and business.

I used to ask Bedros SO many times to put me on his podcast, it was all I wanted! I had told him so many times that I was ready and that I would crush it on his show. After the hundredth time of me asking, he looked me dead in the eye and said, “Earn it.”

I’ll be honest, at the time I was slightly annoyed at the advice because I thought to myself, what does he mean? I HAVE earned it! Look at everything I have accomplished! But really, that was the most profound advice he could have given me at the time, and that’s what I’m going to share with you today!

Listen, a good dietitian business coach will help you realize that SLOW equals fast. What do I mean by that? I mean that slow growth is GOOD growth as a dietitian entrepreneur.

Eventually, I was able to record the podcast with Bedros. As soon as we got done I immediately asked him how it went and how I could improve. He said I did great and that he couldn’t think of anything I could have done better.

And as I reflect on that time, if I would have recorded that podcast all those years ago when I really wanted to, it wouldn’t have been as good. I wouldn’t have been as developed, I wouldn’t have been as proficient of a speaker, and I wouldn’t have been as rehearsed as Bedros was. I would have done okay, but I wouldn’t have done great.

A good dietitian business coach KNOWS how to drip things out to you. They know how to slow you down a little bit, because slow equals fast. It’s NOT about moving as fast as possible, it’s about sustainable and successful growth. Fast forward to today, and I’m a better speaker than I was many years ago because of the advice that my mentor gave me to slow down.

As a dietitian business coach for many years, I have two main lessons for you.

The first is that in you want to achieve ANYTHING in life, you have to earn it. If you want to do something BIG, if you want to be featured as a speaker somewhere like many of my students in the I Believe Mentorship do, you must earn it. I am fortunate enough that I have been on many paid speaking events through Fox news, NBC news, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and more! But I didn’t get there immediately overnight.

Start with free content. Just like this blog post, for example. Be SO good at your free content that the paid media CAN’T ignore you! This is one of the questions I get the most. “Tony, how do I get paid for speaking events?” “How do I get paid to be in the news as a dietitian?” EARN IT through the content and value that you produce! What do YOU uniquely have to offer?

When you are really good at what you do, people will find you, you don’t have to find them! This is exactly what I teach to my 50+ students in our I Believe Mastermind.

Now, the second lesson. A good dietitian business coach knows how to pace out your growth and success. Just because you CAN go jump into an opportunity today, doesn’t mean you should. For instance, the paid speaking. If you want to be paid to speak in front of hundreds of people, have you even spoke in front of 5 people before?

Have you done that for free? Did you perfect your speech? Can you whip out a camera and record impromptu at any moment? Are you good at doing Facebook lives in your group communities? Start with that! Get REALLY good at that, and perfect your craft so that you don’t blow any opportunity that comes your way.

Think about it. What if you did get a HUGE opportunity to speak in front of hundreds of people, but you weren’t as sharp and prepared for the event as you could be. What if you don’t do as well because of that? Unfortunately, that’s what people will ultimately remember.

That is why it’s so important that you have a good mentor who knows how to pace things out for you. That is what you should be looking for in a dietitian business coach.

If you’re a registered dietitian and you want to build an online business, you need to invest in a good mentor. It’s OKAY to go into debt to do this. It’s exactly what I did! I hired Bedros as my mentor when I was 25, aka 5 years ago. I knew in my heart and soul that the entrepreneurial route was for me. But when I first started, I didn’t know how to do any of that.

Look, if you’re currently in the same position as I was 5 years ago, you NEED to take action. If I never would have hired Bedros, I wouldn’t be where I am today in my business. I would still be researching, I would still be reading information on the internet, and I would still be struggling to decide how to start my business. Learn from my story and invest into a dietitian business coach as SOON as you can.
