Have you thought about starting your RD private practice, but you’re afraid you don’t have the right skillset for it? Well, if so, I have some good news for you. The great thing about skills is that they can always be developed at any time. So today, in this article, we’ll talk about what skills you need to become an online RD nutrition coach. However, before we get into the bulk of it, first allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Tony Stephan, and I’m a dietitian business coach. I help RDs make more IMPACT and more INCOME through nutrition coaching. However, before I became a dietitian business coach, I was an RD nutrition coach. I served thousands of nutrition coaching clients over a time span of 12 years. My successful nutrition coaching business is what led me to where I am today. Now allow me to share what you need to know about becoming an online RD nutrition coach.
Skills Needed To Become An Online Nutrition Coach
In college, we were taught how to become awesome dietitians. However, not many of us were taught how to coach or start a business! So in this article, we are discussing the skills you need to become a successful online RD nutrition coach and entrepreneur.
Connect With Your Clients As An RD Nutrition Coach
Here is the great thing about becoming an RD nutrition coach. Your clients don’t really care if you’re the “perfect” RD, but they do care if you’re the RD they can connect with. Think back on your experiences where you have been able to connect with others. You can probably think of many instances where you were able to connect with people personally. Now think about your future nutrition coaching clients. Your future coaching clients are looking for someone they can trust and connect with! Here is the thing, there is a MASS of nutrition information out there! The last thing your clients need is MORE nutrition information. However, your greatest value to them is connection and support in creating and achieving their goals.
So if you want to become a dietitian nutrition coach, one skill you need is the ability to connect with others. My best advice for connecting with your future clients is to genuinely listen to them. You’ll hear me say that you have 2 ears and one mouth for a reason! When you listen to your clients, it shows them that you care and further develops trust. So when in doubt, just remember that you don’t have to be the most “perfect” RD on the block, but what you do need is to have the ability to connect with them on a personal level.
Be Ready To Learn About Building A Business
In college, most of us RDs were not taught much about being a business owner. So unless you’ve taken a course or have done your research, for many of us RDs, starting our own business is like exploring into the unknown. However, the good news is that if you aren’t sure where to start building your own nutrition coaching business, you can always learn and develop the skills needed to run a successful business.
One area that you especially want to take the time to learn and develop in is client attraction. Client attraction is so important because you have to get prospective clients to you before you can ever get a real paying client! One of the ways my business has grown to the level that it has is because of client attraction from social media. You’d be surprised to know that we never pay for ads! That’s the POWER of client attraction on social media.
So my best advice is if you want to become an entrepreneur and RD nutrition coach is to learn as much as you can about building a successful RD private practice. Be A Problem Solver In Your Business
When you own your own business and start taking clients, you have to be ready to be a problem solver. As you’ll hear me say, when you become an entrepreneur, with every level comes a new devil. This means that when you become an entrepreneur and an RD nutrition coach, there will be some bumps and hang-ups on the way. However, that’s just a part of it! And as your business grows, you’ll have to start solving bigger and bigger problems.
So if you want to start your own RD private practice and become an RD nutrition coach, you have to be ready to put your thinking cap on and problem solve. Because unless you have hired on someone else in your business, it’s likely all up to you, my friend. So my best advice in becoming an RD nutrition coach and becoming a problem solver is to see all failure as feedback. As a business owner, there will be hang-ups and sometimes outright disasters that happen. But the important thing to keep in mind here is that in order to be a problem solver, we have to take every bump in the road as a learning opportunity.
Bottom Line: Skills Needed To Become An RD Nutrition Coach
Ultimately if you want to become an RD nutrition coach and be your own boss, you have to be ready to embrace failure as feedback, learn about how to attract clients and create your business structure, and be able to connect with your clients. Becoming an RD entrepreneur takes a great deal of determination and isn’t easy. However, building your own RD private practice doesn’t have to be complicated.
