My name is Tony Stephan, I’m a Registered Dietitian just like you and I’ve sold more than 500 copies of my online Dietitian Nutrition Coaching Certification to RD’s in over 17 different countries at the time of publishing this article.
Let me teach you the information that I’ve learned from creating my online courses.
The first secret to a course:
There are no secrets! You just need to be a master of your craft.
When you create a course, you have to take what you do on an individual basis for your clients and then create it for the masses. This can be very hard to do!
Students who go through the Dietitian Nutrition Coaching Certification have MANY different coaching philosophies like macros, intuitive eating, and behavioral-based coaching. It’s hard to make something generalized enough but specific enough to work with a broad range of individuals like this.
My best advice is to become an expert in your craft. You need to know your stuff better than ANYONE else before making a course. Otherwise, your product might have a couple of buyers from loyal family and friends, but it’s not going to last long.
Need an example of what this looks like? Take my amazing client, Laura Gaston, for instance. Laura was a student of the Dietitian Nutrition Coaching Certification, the 90 Day Business Ignition Program, and the I Believe Mastermind. She waited over 2 years to become an expert at 1:1 coaching with her clients until she launched her course.
The outcome? Laura built a loyal following, she is still crushing it in her 1:1 coaching, and now she has a steady stream of passive income from her new course.
Understand your course offer:
I see this all the time, and this is the Achilles heel that kills people in business who start to do multiple things. Like I always say, the jack of all trades is the master of nothing!
Individuals who do multiple things at once is like making their business a buffet menu. You pull up the menu, and you’re like, wow, there are over 500 options here!
Now you’re overwhelmed because there’s so much stuff, so you don’t even order because you were overwhelmed by SO MANY choices.
Therefore, DON’T do this to your customers! THE CONFUSED CONSUMER DOES NOT BUY!
The jack of all trades is the master of nothing, please remember that.
If you are going to build a course and offer a high ticket coaching program, then the high ticket coaching should always be your first offer.
It’s the easiest way to connect with your client, the easiest buying decision for someone to make, and the easiest way to grow your impact and income.
Don’t compete with yourself; the world is already competitive enough.
Here’s an example:
You have two offers in your program and I come to you as the consumer and say, “Please explain to me in 30 seconds what’s the difference between these two?”
If you can’t, then you’re in trouble.
If you asked me the difference between the Dietitian Nutrition Coaching Certification, the RD Business Ignition, and the 12 month I Believe Mastermind; I could break it down to you in 30 seconds.
Know your offers; don’t create competing offers. If all of the offers are basically the same, the consumer is going to pick the cheapest one. Always.
Know your zone of genius:
My zone of genius is 5 am-9 am.
Is that always fun? No!
I like to sleep, and I like to stay up late at night and have some wine every once in a while.
But, I understand I can’t always do that if I want to wake up at 5 am and be productive.
To find your own zone of genius, ask yourself these questions. Are you more productive in the morning, midday, or at night? Does your focus increase right after a workout? Do you need a cup of coffee to really get in the zone? Whatever it might be, do what works for you, and don’t worry about what everyone else does.
You HAVE to block that time out in your calendar if you want to create something big! If you want to write a book, write a course, or create something significant, then block off your zone of genius time and PROTECT it.
You are going to have one of two pains in life, the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. Which one do you want?
Find discipline in your zone of genius!
Application vs. Education:
In the world of 2021 and beyond, education will ALWAYS be free on the internet.
If you plan on creating a course or creating a program with an education-driven approach, I can almost guarantee you it’s not going to do well.
Education is free, application what you charge for.
If your entire course is available for free on YouTube or Instagram, why would anyone pay?
Your potential customers will pay you to help them apply the KNOWING with the DOING. They already know what they need to do, but they need YOUR help to actually do it.
Course Launch Strategy
You have to REALLY hype this up to be successful.
You have to create anticipation for your product.
Building excitement around what’s to come in your offer is CRUCIAL for your success. When people get bored, they leave.
Courses are not an impulse buy; no one is scrolling their Instagram during their lunch break to buy courses.
You have to warm up your audience. Let them know something’s coming, get them excited about it, and you have to explain the VALUE of it.
Example: create an early bird list.
That was how I was able to sell out 50 spots in under 24 hours before I even launched the Dietitian Nutrition Coaching Certification.
We hyped it up and we were CONSTANTLY talking about it. I didn’t let anyone forget what they would be missing out on.
Put your heart in it
Let’s be real, life will go by in the blink of an eye if you sit around and wait for it to happen.
You only have time to do a certain number of things in life.
Whether you are choosing to start a nutrition coaching business, making a course, or whatever you decide to do, make it GREAT!
Put your heart and soul into it and the rest will pay off.
Do NOT cut corners because you will be asking people for their hard-earned money. Whatever you do, put your blood, sweat, and tears into it and hold nothing back!
