5 Simple And Effective Marketing Strategies For Online Nutrition Coaches

As an online nutrition coach, marketing strategies are very important. How else are you going to spread the word about your business? There are tons of marketing experts and business gurus out there talking about “if you do this you will make X amount of money.” Or, “I did this and I made X amount of money.” 

When, in reality, these marketing experts were not doing the same things they are doing now. What they’re saying you need to do may not align with the stage your business is currently in. Someone with a client list of 1,000 people is not going to have the same marketing strategy as someone with a client list of 10 people. It’d be like just starting your fitness journey and trying to bench press 300 pounds right off the bat. The truth is you just aren’t ready for that! It’s not the stage you are in. The same goes for you and your online nutrition coaching business. 

Before we dive into this topic about effective marketing strategies, let me introduce myself!

My name is Tony Stephan, and I’m a dietitian business coach. I help RDs make more IMPACT and more INCOME through nutrition coaching. However, before becoming a dietitian business coach, I was an RD nutrition coach. I served thousands of nutrition coaching clients over a time span of 12 years. My successful nutrition coaching business is what led me to where I am today. Now, let’s dive into 5 marketing strategies for RD entrepreneurs. 

Marketing Strategies: Social Media 

Social Media

Social media platforms are a great way to share your messages in a very short amount of time. This is probably the easiest way to get the word out there to the largest number of people. However, it can also be very draining as well. Invest time into finding out where your client spends much of their time on which platform(s) they use. Focus on 2 social media platforms and give yourself a goal for the number of posts you’ll make per week. Consistency and value on social media are key! Focusing on 2 platforms initially will be less stressful versus trying to have a presence on every social media platform out there! 

Marketing Strategies: Referrals & Word Of Mouth


Building a relationship with people in the health and fitness industry can really help expand your referral system. Physical therapists, yoga instructors, personal trainers can all be in your referral system. You can be a part of theirs as well! Think of it as you all complementing each other, and if a client mentions a struggle with something in their area of expertise, refer them to the right person! This would work vice versa. 

Word of Mouth

This doesn’t really require anything extra from you. Just go about your daily life, and if you find an opportunity to talk to someone about your business… do it! This is essentially word of mouth. You never know who the person you are talking to knows or what they have access to. So don’t be shy talking to strangers about who you are and what you do! 

Marketing Strategies: Public Events


Find networking events or groups near you. Try to find ones where either your ideal clients will be or where potential referral partners would be. This is going to take more intention and planning ahead compared to word of mouth marketing. 

Public Speaking

Whether you’re posting a video or giving a public speech at a local gym, this is the best way to connect with people. Your audience will get to see and hear you in person. It will feel more relatable and trustworthy when they actually hear the words coming from your own mouth.
